Spiny Water Flea

For those of you who may not have heard the news yet, I am sorry to report that the presence of Spiny Water Fleas has been confirmed in Lake Pleasant.  Please take a look at the issue of the Adirondack Almanack in the attachment to read more about it.  It is really ironic that the discovery was actually made by the 9th grade kids from Lake Pleasant School while out in the boat provided by Paul Smith's College.  This occurred when we had our field trip as part of the LPSA's ongoing program with the LP school which was attended by Bill Thielking and myself.  In fact, I was in the boat with the first group of students to go out on the water, when we conducted the plankton drag and found the net reservoir filled with what we all thought were fish eggs.  As you can read in the attached article,Paul Smith's representatives took the water samples collected that day back for further evaluation which revealed spiny water fleas.   The water sample was collected between the Island and the shoreline toward South Shore Road in the deep area .
